Transforming Spaces: The Community Centre Painting Project

In the heart of Watford, Kooka took on an exciting challenge of revitalising a beloved community centre, known as Harebreaks Community Hub, through a vibrant painting project. This initiative, undertaken as a goodwill gesture for Watford Community Housing, aimed not just to beautify the space but also to foster community pride and engagement.

Why Community Matters 🤝

Community centres are more than just buildings; they are the gathering spots where friendships are forged, laughter echoes, and memories are created. The Harebreaks Community Hub has long been a vital resource for residents, offering a range of activities from social gatherings and educational workshops to fitness classes and cultural events. However, time had taken its toll on the interior, leaving it in need of an internal fresh paint.

When Kooka was approached by Watford Community Housing to take on this project as a goodwill gesture, we felt honoured to give back to the community. We knew that this was not just about painting walls; it was about breathing new life into a space that holds deep significance for so many of the local people of Watford.

The Kooka team worked closely together to revitalise the interior of the community centre, starting with a thorough clean-up. We repaired any damage, prepped the walls, and ensured the surfaces were ready for painting, setting the stage for the transformation ahead.

Once the preparatory work was complete, we proceeded to refresh the walls, skirting boards, and doors, utilising high-quality paint to enhance the aesthetic appeal of the space. Over a span of two weeks, our dedicated efforts resulted in a remarkable transformation, significantly improving the centre’s atmosphere and creating an inviting environment for the community. Each detail was carefully considered to ensure the final outcome not only met but exceeded the expectations of Watford Community Housing.

After weeks of hard work and dedication from the team at Kooka, we were thrilled to hand over the revitalised community centre back to the Watford Community Housing team. The transformation was truly remarkable.

As we unveiled the newly painted interiors, the Watford Community Housing team expressed their gratitude and enthusiasm for the positive change. Karen Jago, Watford Community Housing’s Senior Community Hubs Officer, said: “Harebreaks Community Hub provides a space for a variety of different events including exercise classes, parties and art classes, so it has experienced its fair share of wear and tear over the years. We would like to thank Kooka for their hard work in transforming our hub into a bright and inviting space for both our returning and new hirers.”

The feedback from the Watford Community Housing team was overwhelmingly positive, highlighting the impact of our collective efforts. Their excitement for the future of the community centre was infectious, as they outlined plans for upcoming events and activities that would take advantage of the renewed space.

As we concluded our handover, it was clear that this project was not just about paint and repairs; it was about creating a lasting space that would benefit the community for years to come. The Kooka team felt a deep sense of fulfilment knowing that our work would enhance the lives of residents and contribute to a stronger, more connected community.
